Wow, they are beautiful! I can see it even from the images above how shiny and bright all these silk rugs are. You will love them for their unique look and really very rarely used construction material – silk. Actually the silk as a rug weaving material is rarely used since it is more expensive than wool and unfortunately less durable. However, their value tends to increase with aging.
Because of the lack of durability and to be better preserved with time most silk rugs are not used as floor covering or at least not for high-traffic areas. Often they are used for wall coverings (tapestries). Pretty expensive tapestry if you ask me.
However, silk rugs are totally worth buying, not only because they are very chic, but because with their beautiful and delicate floral motifs, combined with luxurious genuine silk accents, can give any décor the ambience of royalty.
Most of the carpets I present you above are from the Royale Silk Rugs collection by Superior Weavers. Generally they can be called wool and silk rugs, because they are made of 100% wool and silk blend. Silk Persian rugs and silk Oriental rugs are also made of that material blend.
Recently, new fibers such as hemp and nettle have been introduced and combined with wool and silk blend to create new textures and to improve the durability qualities or wool and silk rugs.
In particular the wool and silk rugs I present you above originate from India and are hand tufted. That explains why they are a little more expensive and can be quite an investment for you if you really want to enjoy the comfort and quality of the hand made silk rug.
